With Cesc Fabregas ruled out and Tomas Rosicky a doubt, Arsenal could be extremely short in midfield for Saturday’s vital Premier League match against Hull. It looked like the Gunners would face a similar situation in defence as well, but Arsene Wenger revealed in his pre-match press conference that Sol Campbell’s groin injury is not as bad as first feared. “We have a little doubt about Rosicky, but we will check that tomorrow morning,” said Wenger. “Nobody else is back, but we will lose Alex Song, because he is suspended. “Everyone else has recovered quite well from Tuesday night. Campbell looks better than expected today. Sagna has an ankle problem but we will assess that tomorrow. “We will see how it develops and who is available, who I can play. We know we have 48 hours to prepare for this game and it is quite needed. “But [Fabregas'] chances of playing are 0.5 per cent – that means unless a miracle happens, he will not play. At the moment, he is out of Saturday’s game.” Gooner Talk’s Predicted XI against Hull Almunia Eboue – Campbell – Vermaelen – Clichy Diaby – Denilson – Nasri Walcott – Bendtner – Arshavin Tell us what team you would play against Hull in the comments section below!

Arsenal are through to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League following a convincing display that earned them a 5-0 triumph over FC Porto, winning 6-2 on aggregate. Arsene Wenger’s side knew that one goal could be enough to advance to the quarter finals, and the Londoners attacked right from kick-off, putting great pressure on their opponents. Almunia Sagna – Campbell – Vermaelen – Clichy Diaby – Song – Rosicky Nasri – Bendtner – Arshavin Subs: Fabianski, Silvestre, Traore, Eboue, Denilson, Walcott, Eduardo. The reward came after just ten minutes. A trough ball from Samir Nasri could not be properly cleared by the defense, and the ball ended up in front of Nicklas Bendtner who blasted home for 1-0. After the opening goal, the match was slightly more balanced with Porto spending more half on the opposing half. But the Premiership side got their second in the 25th minute as Andrey Arshavin found his way past several defenders and delivered a short pass from the left of the area, with Bendtner waiting to tap in. Arshavin could have added a third nine minutes later as the Russian had an open goal to score in, but sent the ball over the crossbar instead. And just when Porto began to create more chances near Arsenal’s goal, it was the home side to make it 3-0 in the 63rd minute. Samir Nasri beat three defenders before his strike from a virtually impossible angle went in from the far post. Five minutes later, the Gunners even made it 4-0 as Emmanuel Eboue rounded the keeper following a pass from Arshavin. In the dying minutes, Arsenal netted another after Fucile fouled Eboue in the penalty area and Bendtner completed his hat-trick from the spot. Man of the Match – Samir Nasri – Amazing performance from the French midfield maestro. Filled the role of Fabregas brilliantly.

Cesc Fabregas won’t recover from his hamstring injury in time to play FC Porto tomorrow. However, Arsenal are boosted by the return of defence-minded players Sol Campbell and Alex Song for the last 16 tie. Tomorrow’s Champions League clash is make or break where Arsenal’s European aspirations are concerned, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealing all on the injury situation earlier this afternoon. “Cesc is ruled out for tomorrow’s game,” said the manager. “He has a hamstring problem and we could not even take a gamble with him. “I was hoping [he would recover] after the game because we were cautious with him. He was not adamant about coming out of the team but still he has damaged his hamstring and we cannot take a gamble on him. “However we have gained Sol Campbell back in the squad and Alex Song too, who was suspended against Burnley.” Gooner Talk’s Predicted XI Almunia Sagna – Campbell – Vermaelen – Clichy Nasri - Song – Diaby Walcott – Bendtner – Arshavin Who do you want to see start against Porto tomorrow? Arsenal climbed above Manchester United into second place in the Premier League with a 3-1 home win over Burnley on Saturday — but if Nicklas Bendtner had shown any sort of finishing ability they would have been top. The Dane missed a hatful of increasingly easy chances as Arsenal sought the four-goal victory that would have taken them above Chelsea on goal difference. As it was, goals by Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott and Andrey Arshavin took them to 61 points, the same as leaders Chelsea, who are in FA Cup action against Stoke City on Sunday. Almunia Eboue – Vermaelen – Silvestre – Clichy Fabregas (c) – Denilson – Nasri Walcott – Bendtner – Rosicky Subs: Fabianski, Sagna, Traore, Eastmond, Diaby, Arshavin, Eduardo. Arsenal, who were 11 points off the pace in December and nine behind a month ago, could drop back to third later on Saturday when Manchester United, on 60, seek to go top with a win or draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers. With Burnley managing just one draw and 13 defeats from their 14 previous Premier League away games this season, it was no surprise that Arsenal were on top from the start. Burnley seemed content to sit deep and allow Arsenal to do all their neat passing in front of them. The onus was on Walcott to find a way through and show himself worthy of a place in England’s World Cup squad but though the winger had some early success against his full back he failed to provide much in the way of convertible crosses. Instead it was the eye-of-a-needle passing of Fabregas and Samir Nasri that eventually opened the massed Lancs ranks and enabled Fabregas to cleverly tuck in the opener after 34 minutes. The mercurial Spanish midfielder limped off a few minutes later with what looked like a hamstring strain — not good for Arsenal ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League game against Porto. Arsenal paid for their profligacy when David Nugent was given space to run through the middle and lift the ball over Manuel Almunia five minutes into the second half. Walcott restored the lead 10 minutes later with a well-taken curler but while the fans sat back to await the goal rush that would take them top, the misses left them nervous before Arshavin finally killed it off in stoppage time. With a kinder-looking run-in than either of their two rivals, Arsenal remain very much in the hunt for their first title success since 2004.
